TDA and STM Set the Stage for Maritime Industry Advancement

Langkawi, 24 May 2023 – Technology Depository Agency Berhad (TDA) and Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş. (STM), Turkey, have solidified their commitment to revolutionizing the maritime industry through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The ceremony took place at the STM Booth during LIMA 2023, marking a significant milestone in advancing design capabilities within the sector.

This strategic collaboration, catalyzed by the Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP), aims to establish a dynamic partnership that will fuel innovation and accelerate the development of design solutions for the Littoral Mission Ship (LMS) and Multi-Purpose Mission Ship (MPMS) Projects. The primary objective is to create a centralized hub of design expertise that will propel the entire maritime industry towards new frontiers of excellence.

Dr. Sharoul Jambari, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TDA, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with STM represents a pivotal moment for the maritime industry in Malaysia. With the Industrial Collaboration Programme serving as the catalyst, TDA and STM will not only deliver cutting-edge design solutions but also foster the growth of our maritime industry clusters. Together, we will cultivate an environment of innovation, driving the advancement of Malaysia’s shipbuilding capabilities.”

The partnership between TDA and STM will encompass various critical aspects of design and shipbuilding. It will begin with conducting comprehensive feasibility studies to address regional requirements and specifications. Building upon this foundation, the collaboration will progress towards the development of conceptual designs based on proven models. This will be followed by the creation of basic design frameworks and production design concepts, ensuring that the resulting solutions align with Malaysian shipbuilding requirements.

Furthermore, the MOU emphasizes the establishment of design and shipbuilding standards that will uphold the highest levels of quality and compliance within the industry. This commitment to standards will foster a sustainable environment for shipbuilding in Malaysia and drive the growth of the maritime sector.

One of the key outcomes of this collaboration will be the generation of highly skilled human capital. TDA and STM recognize the importance of nurturing talent and expertise within the maritime industry. Through joint initiatives and programs, the partnership will aim to develop a workforce that is well-equipped to tackle the evolving challenges and opportunities in the field of maritime design.

TDA, the ICP authority appointed by the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, is dedicated to fostering technological advancements and collaborations across various industries. The agency’s focus on promoting innovation and economic growth positions it as a catalyst for transforming Malaysia into a technology-driven nation.

STM, a prominent defense and technology company based in Turkey, brings extensive experience in defense systems integration, engineering, and consultancy services to the table. With a commitment to delivering innovative solutions, STM strives to meet the evolving needs of the defense and maritime industries globally.

The collaboration between TDA and STM, facilitated by the Industrial Collaboration Programme, holds immense promise for the maritime industry, positioning Malaysia as a hub for design innovation and shipbuilding excellence. By leveraging the expertise and resources of both organizations, the partnership aims to drive progress, elevate standards, and propel the maritime industry to new heights.
