07 Nov 2016

GETAFE, 24-26 October 2016 – Technology Depository Agency Berhad (TDA) together with representatives from Destini Berhad, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and Prime Ministers Office (PMO) witnessed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for Unmanned Arial Vehicle (UAV) in Getafe, Spain from 24 – 26 October 2016. These UAVs will be used to equip six (6) MMEA Coastal Patrol Vessels. Destini Berhad was appointed as the prime local contractor whereas PMO and MMEA are the end users.

Besides witnessing the FAT, the objectives of the visit were to explore and enhance knowledge in new UAV technology for future maritime ICP implementation in Malaysia. The visit was also to further deliberate the potential of ICP projects to capture maximum benefits to the local industry.

On the ICP initiative, amongst the projects that can be included into future ICP project to enhance local capabilities specifically in UAV are developing competencies in the UAV operations, maintenance and development of UAV regulations and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). In the long run, full development of UAV by local companies can be achieved through ICP platform.

The UAV will extend the operational capabilities of the Malaysian maritime surveillance fleet, proving a broad range of operational capabilities including counter-piracy, anti-smuggling operations, fisheries policing and border surveillance.
