From 5 - 6 April 2016, Technology Depository Agency Berhad (TDA) and Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) jointly took part in an industrial visit to Hyundai Heavy Industry (HHI) in Ulsan, South Korea. The objective of the visit is to explore the potential collaboration with the Korean companies for the interest of Malaysian shipbuilding and ship repair (SBSR) industry development. The visit is also to promote exchange of insights and experiences with Korean technology-oriented industries on their key success factors and challenges faced in penetrating the global supply chain.
The delegates were taken for a tour to HHI that consists of the biggest shipbuilding yard in the world, chemical plant, industrial power plant and marine manufacturing facilities.During the visit, TDA had a meeting with representatives from the University College of Ulsan (UCU) and the Global Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (GSOE), a consortium of 20 engineering companies.
At UCU, the delegates visited its Technology Education Centre that comprises of training facilities for welding and machining, 3D printingand ship designing using the latest technology and software. UCU is one of the major training centresin Korea that provides skilled workers for their SBSR industry.
In relations to our Industrial Collaboration Program (ICP), UCU and GSOE are looking forward for a strategic partnership with TDA and work closely with the Malaysian entities insharing their expertise and technology know-how.
