IP3 : Collaboration with UPM : Grant Research And Construction Investment For Project Inclusive Transit Station (ITS): Beyond The Station Strategy
ICP PROVIDER: MUDAJAYA CORPORATION BERHAD
ICP RECIPIENT: FACULTY DESIGN AND ARCHITECHTURE UNIVERSITI PUTRA MALAYSIA (UPM)
This ICP Project is collaboration between Mudajaya Corporation Berhad and Faculty of Design and Architecture. Mudajaya Corporation Berhad had invested RM 100,000.00 hard cash for this project which being paid by stages to this Faculty.
This project is based on a theoretical research idea that attempts to integrate research theory into design project through collaboration with the students. In general, the UPM’s students are using public transport for their mobility on the campus and to the intercity. Most of the students spend their time ineffective way during “waiting-time” due to lack of design amenities that do not a response to the student activity and need.
For that reason, this project takes the challenge to find the best design innovation in fabricating the new model of a transit station that transmutes the current transit station into an inclusive one-stop centre that response to the student activity.
This project was led by the Faculty’s Senior Lecturer, Dr. Noranita Mansor together with other lecturers in different major from the same faculty and there is also involvement of students from the faculty itself.
Project timeline as below:
This project was segregated into 3 different stages which are research activity, conceptual design and interpreting the conceptual idea into construction of the ITS Station.
The research team members had gathered for design research brainstorming in developing the research activities and Design Idea competition brief. The team have regular meetings in achieving the objective of ICP.
The team had also presented the design to Mudajaya Corporation Berhad for review and approval
Through this project, the lecturers have the initiative to involves student’s participation by having Design Idea Competition. Through this competition, students can leverage idea from their studies and incorporated to the theoretical design. There are several designs have been selected. Representative from Mudajaya together with lecturers have pick one design that have fulfilled the requirement of theoretical design as the winner of this competition.
The winning design will be enhanced by the research team to fit into inclusive design criteria as below and to constructed to real life model.
CONSTRUCTION TO REAL LIFE MODEL
The tendering process begin in November 2020 whereby Kerayong Indah Enterprise has been selected as contractor for this project. The construction of this ITS Station had completed on 15 March 2021. Universiti Putra Malaysia had also obtained Intellectual Property Ownership to design of this ITS Station.
BENEFIT TO MALAYSIA
This project will give benefit to the students at Faculty of Design and Architecture. This inclusive model of transit station will response to student’s activity and respect the surrounding environment that may give more efficient of use of “waiting time” to all.
