BATU PAHAT, 10 April 2017 - Technology Depository Agency Berhad (TDA) Program Operation Division (POD) represented by En. Mohd Nazmi Mohd Nur and his team, visited Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia’s (UTHM) Centre of Excellence in Rail (COER) in Batu Pahat, Johor. The intent of the visit was to have a better understanding of the current capability and progress of the COER and rail academic courses in UTHM.
UTHM’s representatives were led by Prof. Dr. Khalid Hasnan (Head of Railway Engineering Program) while other attendees include Prof. Dr. Badrul Omar (Professor at Faculty of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering), Dr. Nor Azizi Yusoff (Managing Director of UTHM Holdings Sdn. Bhd.) and Prof. Madya Dr. Nafarizal Nayan (Head of MiNT-SRC). The one-day visit comprised of tours to several facility and research centres such as the Office for Research, Innovation, Commercialization & Consultancy Management (ORICC), Research Centre for Applied Electromagnetic (EMC) and Microelectronics & Nanotechnology – Shamsuddin Research Centre (MiNT-SRC).
During the visit, UTHM also shared some of their key milestones and achievements in relation to the rail industry such as the introduction of a Bachelor’s Degree programme in Railway Engineering starting September 2018, upon full accreditation by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA). On top of that, UTHM’s Faculty of Engineering Technology will receive a 4-car set from Prasarana to add to its COER in Pagoh which will commence operation in June 2017. Other modules such as rail track and power supply system are also being considered as part of the modules for learning and research purpose.
“Moving forward, TDA will work hand-in-hand with UTHM’s COER to develop its capabilities to become an established and recognized Rail Centre of Excellence, both locally and internationally together with the support from various stakeholders.” commented Dato’ Zailani Safari, Chief Executive Officer of TDA about the initiative under Industrial Collaboration Program (ICP).
