An IoT-enabled system that detects, forecasts and immobilises Golden Apple Snails in paddy fields.
Project Description
The PREDITACK™ project develops an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled system to detect, forecast, and immobilise Golden Apple Snails (GAS) in paddy fields. The project integrates sensor technology, cloud computing, and a mobile application to provide an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to conventional chemical-based pest control methods.
Project Output
ITPSB received RM192,000 to continue the PREDITACK Prototype to TRL 6.
Project Outcome
- Reduced Golden Apple Snail (GAS) control costs by 67% for MADA and local paddy farmers.
- Improved GAS immobilisation efficiency, achieving a 100% immobilisation rate during field testing.
- Reduced pesticide usage by up to 90%.
- Enabled patent acquisition and increased recognition for ITPSB.
Forecasted Impact
Financial Impact
- Potential annual cost savings of up to RM2.26 billion through the replacement of conventional GAS control methods.
- Expected to reduce paddy production losses by USD 1.32 million and increase rice production by 10%.
Operational Impact
- Reduces pollution in drainage systems used for paddy fields.
